Blackpool Firework Championships

We went to the Blackpool Firework championship the first time in 2 years last night, we try and go to at least 2 out of the 4 shows every year. It is always such an amazing display and living so close it feels like it’s something we shouldn’t miss!

Last night was Ireland’s turn!

We knew it was going to be busy. We’d heard of last weeks huge motorway delays so we thought we’d be clever. We drove the back roads, about 30 minutes from the cabin, and parked up on the prom near Bispham Tram station at about 5.30 with very little traffic on the way. We waited about 20 minutes for a tram, a driver shortage meant less trams so a longer wait and a sardine packed tram. This was our first ever experience on a Blackpool Tram. Isn’t it funny, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been to Blackpool but I’ve never been on the tram! It wasn’t a pleasant experience but only cost us £12 for a return ticket for all 4 of us.  We got off early and walked…

The fireworks don’t start till 8.30 so we walked into Blackpool and got some pizza slices from a back alley little pizza shop. It was delicious. The queues for food are ridiculous. Make sure you book or take a picnic or find cute little food shops like the one we found!

We then had a mooch down the prom. At 6.30 it wasn’t too busy but also none of the lights turn on till about 7.30 (think this gets earlier as the nights draw in) so we ended up buying our own lights for the kids 🙄🙄 There is some entertainment on outside the tower from 7.30 but we didn’t stay around there to watch.

The fireworks are set off on the beach this year so North pier was open. It costs £2 an adult and £1 a child to go on to the pier. But we were able to sit down, there was a bar without a ridiculous queue and some fairground rides for the kids! The view of the fireworks was incredible the only downside of being on the pier was the fact we couldn’t hear the music that goes along with the fireworks and this did actually have a big impact on the show for us.

Then there’s getting out of Blackpool. We got off the pier pretty quick but there was no way we were fitting on a tram. So we walked back to the car. Ended up being not so clever with a tired 6 year old and a good half hour walk back. The traffic home on the back roads wasn’t too bad.

We were all exhausted but had a lovely evening out! It’s one not too miss but don’t expect to get anywhere quickly and expect to be shoulder to shoulder with a few people.

There’s 2 shows left on the 9th and 23rd October.
Happy Glamping Trips
